ESL Student Wins Australian Open

Marat Safin of Russia defeated Lleyton Hewitt 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 on Sunday night, to win the Australian Open Tennis Championship at Melbourne Park. This was Marat's second Grand Slam tournament title. His other win was over Pete Sampras at the 2000 U.S. Open .

Way to go Marat!

The Australian Open has tennis lovers all excited. We talked about Australian English ("G'day Mate") vs Canadian English ("Nice day, eh?"). With the brutally cold weather we've been having most people are not thinking tennis, not even skiing. Cuba sounds so attractive right now. What is the temperature at Varadero today?

Hilary Duff is in town and there has been endless media noise about it. Today's Ottawa Citizen even carried a story about dads dressing up as women to qualify for tickets to her concert. Today's ESL lesson - the expression "in drag."
